Every developed and developing country is teeming today with manufacturers and distributors of nutraceutical products that cater to professional sportsmen and women and sport-minded ones alike. Health products of every type, size and taste have abound. Today, the nurtraceutical industry is estimated to be worth $80 billion (U.S.) Just what are the factors of success in this highly competitive field of sports nutrition industry?

The biggest sports nutrition players have come up with keywords to success:

Keyword: Research

Company efforts to advance the field of supplement products for sports nutrition are the backbone of any industry. By supporting clinical research and trying to foster a relationship with science advisory boards, the field of sports nutrition is advanced. Eventually, consumers are able to receive innovative, scientifically-based, safe and effective products.

Advisory boards have funded research projects on nutrition and sports performance including research on creatine, HMB, CLA and glutamine among others. Research grants are also provided to young scientists early in their careers.

Large-scale sports nutrition industries commit over $500,000 every year to independent analytical analysis to ensure that sports nutrition products meet specifications. Investigations are also warranted. There should be rigorous vendor certification or re-certification auditing program that helps companies adhere to industry quality standards.

Keyword: Innovation

New products and technologies should be developed to provide the best quality on existing products.

Consumers have a preoccupation of trying out something “new,.” There should always be innovation whether it means new forms of delivery (gels, effervescent tablets, functional beverages) or new applications of or combinations with existing products.

Keyword: Price

For Sports Nutrition consumers, price is still everything. In the U.S. for example, even though people were getting laid off and the economy has been unstable after 9/11 people still wanted to work out and stay healthy. This coupled with higher oil prices has lead people to look for deals and good prices.

Products must be extremely competitively. Sport Nutrition giants for example rely on increased sales volume in exchange of lesser profit margins on each product sold.

Quality, certification and taste matter but in the final analysis, consumer want good deals on great products.

Keyword: Variety

What should retailers do to become their customers’ first choice for sports nutrition products? Carry a variety of lines that will offer clients with options in supplements.

Retailers often opt not to sports supplements when they carried only one line or one brand. Sports nutrition customers are varied and are everywhere. There are more women as well as men buying supplements and at different ages and varied income brackets. Retail stores should therefore be able to offer a selection products or else buyers will look elsewhere, like the internet or shop somewhere other than these local vitamin stores or pharmacies.

Keyword: Safe

There are regulatory agencies to protect consumers. Sports nutrition companies should engage in top of the line research and development and prove the efficacy and safety of their nurtraceutical products. Products that are based on false or misleading marketing should be and are banned and condemned.

It is thus the responsibility of manufacturers and marketers to provide sports nutrition products that are safe, effective, easily used, and completely understood by both retailers and consumers.

Today, natural product retailers can provide consumers safe alternatives to potentially harmful chemical stimulants (fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine), fat-chelating agents, cosmetic surgery, and a life of inactivity or painful exercise Natural, science-based exercise nutrition products that promote energy, fitness, and weight loss are now available.

Keyword: Information

Consumers are becoming more and more intelligent. They rely on scientific and hard facts rather than recommendations and endorsements from celebrities and sports personalities. Aside from vigorous research, sports nutrition companies should invest in a sound information dissemination and product communication strategy to stay ahead of the game.

Product information should be detailed but fairly understandable. Also, information should be readily available on product packets, posters, print and TV advertisements and the internet. Consumers can believe only what manufacturers communicate well.

Everything focuses around education for the consumer — an educated consumer is the industry’s best friend.

These principles helped sports nutrition companies boost the industry as a whole. If remembered and adhered to, these keywords will spur more gains in the industry as large portions of the world’s population now put priority to fitness and health.

The term “girl” is generally thought of to be a young female, but when we’re talking about body building for girls, we’re really referring to female body building for teen girls. Body building isn’t a sport just reserved for the male sex. Girls can get strong, fit, and toned just like boys although their approach needs to be different.

Girls need to set realistic body building goals when they are trying to figure out just what they want to accomplish with their weight training. Some girls just want to lose weight. Others would like to become toned and firm. Still others are using body building as a way to excel at sports. Set goals and keep those goals in mind during workout programs. Don’t lose sight of those goals and use them as motivation to keep going.

Guys – especially teen guys – produce much more testosterone than girls do, so remember that, as a girl, you won’t be building muscle in the same ways as your male counterparts. You can, however, tone your muscles and sculpt a beautiful body when you keep an eye on the end result you want to achieve.

When it comes to nutrition, girls who are starting a body building routine need to keep a few things in mind. First of all, girls need different nutrients than boys. They require much more iron due to blood loss during menstruation, and they also can benefit from more protein. Protein provides muscle building material in the body, so it should be consumed both through diet as well as supplements.

When speaking of supplements, girls should shy away from testosterone replacement supplements. These types of artificial substances can make a woman or girl look more like a man and can seriously impede health. While they will make your muscles grow stronger and quicker, they should still be avoided for girls who are body building seriously.

Keep in mind that both girls and boys who are body building need to get lots of rest. This is very important for any young person, but when you are working your body, you really need to get a lot of rest. Muscles are grown when the body is in a sedentary state. While you sleep, your muscles will grow and you will be repairing any damage you’ve done while working out.

Get the advice of an adult before you undertake a body building program. It’s very possible for girls who want to use body building as a fitness program to make beautiful bodies that they can be proud of. Just be sure you do it safely and know what you are doing before you start. Then watch the results and enjoy what you’ve done!

There have been numerous studies conducted regarding physical fitness for girls. The dominant result reveals that most teen age girls have turned their back from sports, and tend to neglect physical fitness.

For this reason, parents become anxious about their daughters health. When their little girls step into the period of adolescence, parents usually start their search on how to keep their daughter’s interest on maintaining fitness as their son does.

The primary key to this problem is to orient the kids that it is a lifestyle choice to choose fitness. Likewise, keeping oneself fit is a lifetime endeavor.

There is no problem for boys when it comes to the consciousness on their fitness. They are usually sports oriented. It is really the girls who remain inactive on their fitness exercise as they step into adolescent.

A consultant on fitness education, Judy Notay, stated that girls, upon reaching 12 and 13, illustrate a dramatic fall in their enthusiasm towards sports and fitness. The performance of team sports for girls frequently plunges.

To keep the focus of these girls in maintaining their fitness, parents must be aware to choose a school which will be able to provide them good fitness programs. Not just the common fitness program, but the one that mirrors the girls’ interests.

The logic here is simple, role modeling.

A Physical Education professor in University of Victoria, Rick Bell, said that according to his own perception, the decline of interest of girls in maintaining their fitness only reflects the occasions in schools.

According to him, the curriculum of the schools does not suit the interest of these girls, specifically, the sort of activities being offered. Especially the nature of competition, which is a normal element of the activities, does not conform to the perception of most girls when it comes to its significance.

The activities that will catch the attentions of these girls, according to professor Bell, are basically dancing.

Today, a number ofschools offer this kind of activities. Dance programs in its different classifications. Examples of this are jazz, social dance, and modern.

Other activities that capture the interests of girls are aerobics and programs on outdoor education. Truth is these programs are actually proven to be effective in catching the attention of children. In the same manner, these also make the girls active.

Notay stated that the kind of fitness program that parents should search is the one that offers a kind of activity that will be exclusive for girls. The purpose here is to meet the skill level of the girls.

Of course, the one that heads the program should possess a vast understanding of the needs of the girls. This is very applicable especially when the program will not be within school.

As a parent, don’t think that this will be of so much effort. True, it will take a good deal of effort, but just keep in mind that it is all worth it.

By simply being conscious of your daughter’s enthusiasm for physical fitness, you are already guiding your kid to be safe from the threats of illnesses. You are also helping her to cope up with stresses. Of course, through physical fitness, your daughter’s confidence is also being developed through socializing with others.

Did you know there are over 100 different types of arthritis? Shocking, isn’t it? Today, we’re going to take a look at the four most common types of arthritis and their symptoms. If your type of arthritis isn’t covered, conduct research via the Internet. Just type in “arthritis symptoms” at your favorite search engine and you’ll be well on your way to finding more answers.

Osteoarthritis falls into the category of Degenerative Arthritis. Also referred to as Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD); osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage (cushion) in a joint breaks down. When the cushion becomes too thin, it causes friction and inflammation in the tissue surrounding the joint. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the feet, knees, hips, and fingers.

As with any disease, symptoms vary from person to person. Osteoporosis is a progressive disease and symptoms oftentimes go unnoticed until the disease is fairly advanced. The primary symptom is pain in the joints. Other symptoms include stiffness and swelling in the joints; a “snapping” or “clicking” noise of the joints; and bony growths at the joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis falls into the category of Autoimmune Disease, or Autoimmunity. Autoimmune disease is believed to be caused by an over-production of cytokines - a communication device devised for cells to talk to each other. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause severe joint damage. It frequently causes fingers and toes to become deformed and can be excruciatingly painful. Rheumatoid arthritis affects the entire body. Symptoms include chronic inflammation and pain in the joints or entire body, chronic fatigue, weight loss and anemia.

Juvenile arthritis affects children before the age of 16. It is a chronic condition that causes inflammation in one or more joints. There are three types of Juvenile arthritis; each with their own set of symptoms:

v Systemic onset type - Begins with high fevers and frequently accompanied by a skin rash.
v Pauciarticular onset disease - Swelling, inflammation or pain affecting fewer than five joints. This type of arthritis affects about 50 percent of all children with arthritis.
v Polyarticular disease - Swelling, inflammation or pain affecting five or more joints.

Cervical arthritis affects the upper spine and cervical vertebrae. Either through age, injury, or disease; the cervical vertebrae begin to degenerate. Additionally, the shock-absorbing disks that float between each vertebra begin to degenerate. Over the course of time, the nerves that connect the spinal cord to the neck become compressed. The compression causes the nerves to become inflamed, which produces neck pain that may radiate through the arms and to the fingers.

The most common symptoms of cervical arthritis include: chronic neck pain; muscle weakness; numbness in the neck, arms and hands; limited range-of-motion; headaches; and loss of balance.

If you want to do yoga, of course you need to have some of the needed yoga accessories but you don’t really need all of it.

In practicing, you don’t actually have to force yourself to buy all of the accessories. You can have just the necessary ones. If you want to have the most yoga accessories, you can go for the cheaper ones that are available.

Other sports may require you to have all the expensive accessories needed in the practice. With Yoga, the major requirement is your body and nothing more. It is the important equipment that you should have in order to complete the process.

Although not required, you can have the basic yoga accessories if you want to. These basic accessories give you a comfortable look and feel when having the practice.

Of course, Yoga Accessories are safer to perform with in having a practice. It may prevent some certain slips and slides that you may not expect while in the procedure especially if you are a beginner.

Some standard Yoga Accessories include clothing. This type of accessory is needed to keep you comfortable. Good clothing helps you to breathe clearly and it allows to you make movements freely. These Yoga Accessories contributes a lot to your concentration and will give you a peaceful mind.

If you do not wear good and comfortable Yoga Accessories, you might be distracted. Distractions are very hard to deal with in doing yoga practices.

Wearing loose fit tee shirts might cause some abstractions because it draws your attention and it causes to move unevenly. Paying attention to these things is such a hindrance to a peaceful yoga practice.

Yoga instructors recommend their students to wear nice-fit Yoga Accessories in order for the session to be flourishing and thriving.

One of the best Yoga Accessories is the shorts. Most people wear shorts during a practice. This is very perfect for those who perspire a lot. Sometimes, the room temperature keeps you warm and wearing coated accessories may cause some discomfort during the practice.

Since Yoga needs full concentration, sweating may cause some distractions and disturbances. Yoga Accessories are created to make you feel better and not to make you feel uneasy.

Yoga as we all know is performed barefoot but there are some people who are comfy in wearing socks that are made of cotton and also shoes that are softly made.

A mat is another Yoga Accessory that is commonly used by those who practice yoga. This is quite essential if you are in a class so that you stay in your place during the practice.

This is good to stay clean because there will be some exercises that requires you to lie flat on the floor. Mats help in preventing slides and slips during a practice.

There are also some optional Yoga Accessories which include bags. These bags are useful if you are carrying a mat to your class.

DVD’s are useful if you are not taking classes. The videos represent as your teacher. You simply need to follow the steps and you’re in shape. It’s just like having real classes.

Buying these accessories is not really compulsory but they are considered useful. Now what are you waiting for? If you really want to do yoga, go and get yourself the Yoga Accessories that you want.

When a person decides that he or she wants to get into body building as a sport, it’s important to look at the big picture before starting out. You’ll need to look at your new quest as a lifestyle change and know what you’re in for before you even start. The big picture in body building is where you will want to end up.

That means setting personal goals when it comes to your body building journey. What do you want to look like when you are at your peak? Do you have a specific person in mind that you want to emulate? Keep that picture in your mind as you are working out as motivation.

You will also want to consider what type of goals you have for yourself as a result of your body building. Are you wanting to lose weight, do you want to eventually compete, or do you just want to live healthier? Keeping that picture in your mind as well will help you become more focused and more effective while body building.

The big picture of body building also includes living a fully healthy lifestyle. That means eating right and getting the right amount of rest to make your workouts count every day. You’ll need lots of different vitamins and minerals that can work inside your body and make your muscles work harder so they are well-defined and toned.

Are you wanting to ultimately compete in body building contests? If so, the picture of body building you carry with you will be different than that of a person who is just striving to become fit. You will want to concentrate on specific muscle groups and work them to their fullest potential.

Do your research before you start body building and look at pictures of people who at their muscle building peaks. See what they look like and then keep that picture in your mind as you strive for your own personal fulfillment.

Body building is really more than a sport – it is a mind, body, and soul endeavor. Keeping the big picture always at the forefront of your mind will make your body building more efficient, more effective, and will grow your body to new proportions.

The picture of body building is more than just an oily, greased up man or woman standing on a stage and flexing their muscles. Today, body building has evolved to include the picture of health and wellness as well. Those who remember that will become everything they ever dreamed of and will make that picture in their minds become a reality.

This world is made up of many different realities. All of these, diverse as they may seem, actually work and revolve around one thing – the meaning of life. The search for things like happiness, victory, and personal satisfaction is actually a quest for life’s real essence. Where do you find all these things? You might be amazed, but everything is actually found within one’s self. The answer to life’s endless questions, the unlocking of the many mysteries of living, all these are hidden in the deepest recesses of man’s soul.

Near as they are, getting in touch with all these realities, all the solutions needed to lift the world from its misery, is actually a great feat that requires will and determination. If you wish to unravel the many treasures within yourself, you will find a great help from meditation books.

Meditation is a practice, an activity that has its origin thousands of generations ago. Many philosophers and thinkers are known in the promotion of this activity and the benefits that it provides. In this modern era of fast living, meditation still finds a place in the lifestyle of many people. There are various forms of meditation being introduced and practiced, meditation programs being offered, and even meditation books which are all designed to lead people in the path and direction towards themselves and to the truths that many are looking for.

Meditations books offer insights about taking full advantage of meditation in man’s everyday living. Whether you are a beginner, someone curious about meditation, or a person whose goal in life is to find the real essence of existence, there are actually various meditation books to help you get started.

Every meditation book is written for enlightenment, which is actually the goal of every meditation practice. Enlightenment lurks within the pure silence of the soul, and it is only when you are able to establish connection with your inner self will you be able to find the truths that you need in order to live a happier and a healthier life.

Meditation books do not stop on teaching you how to start a regular personal or structured meditation session. Each book is designed to help you go through the process, deal with the possible obstacles that you may encounter along the way, and to successfully apply meditation to everyday living.

Although the concrete activity when doing meditation is performed within a specific span of time and with certain guidelines that you must observe, real meditation is actually a lifestyle. Whatever you do, wherever you are, whatever the current experience you are in, you can turn that into a meditation. When done successfully, you will be able to find fulfillment in everything that you do and improve the total quality of your life.

Meditation books are treasure troves of knowledge. They bring abstract concepts into the setting of the real and the concrete world and help you find the best way by which you can get the best out of your life.

Airsoft guns are not real firearms, but the same awareness and safety practices still apply. I dare say the chance of injury may be elevated do the perception of airsoft guns as toys. However, a couple of common sense rules when handling airsoft guns can insure a fun and safe day at the field.

When not engaged in game play clear your weapon. Remove the magazine from your airsoft gun and fire it (in a safe direction) at least two times to the clear barrel and feed tube. Place your gun on safe and apply a barrel protector.

Treat every airsoft gun as if it were a loaded one. Given the small size of airsoft bbs and the fact that airsoft guns do not chamber and clear in the same manner as real firearms, the chance of a rouge bb being present in your gun is much greater than any real firearm.

Do not point your airsoft gun at anyone you are not intending to shoot. This goes for on and off the field. Practice good muzzle discipline when playing, you stand a much greater chance of being injured by a teammate than the opposing force. Be aware of your teammate’s line of fire and do not cross into it without making them aware of your intended actions. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the operator to insure that they practice proper muzzle discipline to avoid friendly fire.

Be aware of the minimum engagement distance. Familiarize yourself with the field rules, and pay special attention to the minimum engagement distance and procedures when you are within this distance. When in doubt call yourself out, lower your airsoft gun, and follow the procedures set forth by the field for removing yourself from play. No game, no matter how heated, is worth an injury.

What keeps a triathlon athlete going in spite of the heat and long hours of vigorous physical activity is a properly hydrated and fueled body. In endurance sports, nutrition is equivalent to keeping oneself hydrated at all times, especially during the game. If you don’t give yourself the proper nutrition it needs, your game performance will suffer.

Sports that require special attention to endurance nutrition (and thus help you level up your performance) are: running, swimming, triathlon, cycling, rowing, mountain biking, adventure racing, cross-country skiing, mountaineering and trekking.

Let us say that you have prepared yourself for an endurance sport. Your nutrition focuses on giving you enough fuel to last you a day of vigorous physical activity. You eat foods rich in protein to keep your muscles fit for the game and carbohydrates to give you enough energy and fuel your muscles to run fast, steady, and consistently. What else can you do to perform much better in endurance sports?

Here are some endurance sports nutrition suggested by athletes and trainers:

Endurance Sports Nutrition Tip – Hydrate Yourself

1. Start the day with a full tank of water.

Athletes don’t eat during a game. But they do drink water. Studies show, of which common people now know, that humans can last a month without eating but will die immediately without water for 3 days to one week. That is how important water is to our body.

Many people die of diarrhea because of dehydration. Hydration is an important nutrition component to humans, most especially to athletes involved in endurance sports. So the endurance sports nutrition tip from athletes and trainers: drink lots of water before the game.

Hydration is the key to winning endurance sports competition. And drinking water before the game starts puts you in a great headstart.

2. Hydrate yourself regularly during the game.

Drink often during the game. Most endurance sports nutrition guide books will tell you the same thing. Athletes in endurance sports sweat off two quarts of water per hour especially in hot and humid weather. So, you must drink at least four up to eight ounces of water every fifteen to twenty minutes. Sports drink may also replace water.

Here’s some tip that endurance sports nutrition guide books may not have told you: to know when it is time to gulp on your water or sports drink bottle, set your timer to alarm every 15 or 20 minutes within 24 hours.

Freeze your drinking bottles and then pack them up in insulated foams to keep it cool. Even if you don’t sweat still do gulp down the liquid in your drinking bottle. You may not know it and may not notice it but you may have sweat more than you think of.

3. Pack up extra bottles.

Carry more drinking bottles if you can. Don’t be afraid to look like a camel with extra hump at your back. You need all those liquids in your endurance sport. It will keep you going and in shape.

Besides, you will drain these drinking bottles one at a time every 15 or 20 minutes. At that rate, you may not even know that your endurance sports drinks have been drained down your esophageal pipes.

Endurance sport nutrition question: Water or sports drink?

In endurance sports nutrition, it has debated whether water or sports drink should be consumed by an athlete competing in endurance sports.

Researches have shown that endurance sports athletes (competing under the sweltering heat of the sun) who were provided with water as a means of hydrating themselves replace only one and half to two thirds of fluid loss, while those who were given with sports drink have shown hydration nearly to a hundred percent.

The reason for this is that sports drink contains electrolytes (sodium, potassium and magnesium) which help retain fluid in the body and balance the presence of these minerals that are vital in normal bodily function.

We lose electrolytes when we sweat. Dizziness, muscle cramps, extreme exhaustion, and irregular heartbeat are the symptoms of electrolytes loss in the body.

According to endurance nutrition experts, many athletes lose endurance due to low level of electrolytes. In fact, according to endurance sports nutrition magazines, some athletes even die due to electrolytes loss.
